Funny, this announcement almost feels like a great band giving a press conference that they'll quit, and all members will go solo after giving one hell of a last performance; with lots of old songs; and some new stuff as well...
Cant wait for the final fireworks , and for the future, either it completely sucks or its one of the best decisions ever.

No, you played a game, of which you enjoyed... GW2 will be a seperate game that you may or may not enjoy, however if you add it GW2 to your GW account, your GW titles will be shown in the Hall of rememberance, or what ever the frak they call it...

You guys haven't even played, and I for one am EXTREMELY excited.

I'm also EXTREMELY excited too
To above poster "all my work was for nothing". Its a game, not work. I play for fun and yes nice armor is nice but sooo? I'm already very glad that we get a fresh start but can keep the titles

^^ Exactly my sentiments, If I wanted to play WoW I would have done it by now!
Sigh I'm very disappointed too.

I love how everyone thinks raising the level cap suddenly makes it equal to WoW. Yeah, because the level cap was the only difference with WoW.
Wait, no...
Fact is, these bits of preliminary info don't tell us anything about what the game will really be like, and until we do, I suggest all of you stop crying how GW2=WoW.
Besides, I'm sure Anet will take care in making sure that GW2 will not become a grindfest, and that the level cap doesn't imbalance things. Until the contrary is proven, you have no right and no reason to assume otherwise.

Agreed.
Guild Wars is appealing to me because I can have a life and still be (fairly) competitive under the current setup w/ level caps. GW is a bit like stock car racing*--most players have access to the same resources (e.g., practical items and skills). Opening the game up to benefit grinders removes the level field of play.
*Note: This is probably a bad example b/c I hate racing and happen to love GW, but I think it conveys my point.

I think you people need to ignore the fact WoW is there when talking about GW 2, then what will you have to say for yourself? I don't think Anet is copying, they might be taking a few things here and there from other MMO's, but it's going to be that and GW mixed with that among other things and that's what is going to make it unique.
You people run in fear from change it's silly, it's not like it's going to be a bad thing, they aren't saying that when you're level 100 you'll be better than a level 25 or level 30. It might just be cosmetic and I highly doubt that Anet is totally leaving their first said philosophy behind.
As far as I'm concerned, higher level cap is needed cause PvE in Guild Wars is flat out boring after level 20 and about 3-5 months. I rather dedicate a lot of time to 1 game that isn't boring, then dedicating a short amount of time to a game that is boring and then spending a lot of money buying other games so I'm not bored.
I'm happy about all the news and well my char's won't be able to go over but that's no big deal, they'll still be around for 2 years yet and Ima make the best of that time. But I probably won't be using more than 1 of my characters anymore for main things, as there is no use.
Plus who knows what could be fixed/changed by 2008 and even after so you people really jump the gun on the negative outlooks I think.

This is simply not true, killing a million "afflicted" over and over again in the same order is not replayability, its temporary "unfun" time occupation.

This all sounds exciting to me - I'm all up for a fresh start, and new things.
The only thing that worries me a little is the raised level cap. Okay, I don't hate the idea, and I won't write it off, but I'm one of those people who has 10 characters. One of each profession... All lvl20, all having completed at least one of the campaigns (apart from my sadly nelected Paragon...)
With a raised level cap, I'll likely feel the need to focus on one character, so I can get that high level, and not be judged as less able player than I am...
But I'll feel like I'm missing out if I can't enjoy the game from the standpoint of every profession any more...
I'll probably get used to it. It's not a huge gripe... I'm just a little worried...

I want hardmode, being able to replay low level areas without getting bored. I don't want my "replayability" to be grind my ass off. I'm not too worried about level cap, but I have worked alot on my characters and I will not buy #2 if I have to start from scratch. I would rather play WoW, where I know as long as I pay the monthly fee, I can Grind my characters up and get new content. Not build my characters up and leave them behind.

3) Higher level caps >> I am open for it, as long as it does not mean grinding. Let's give Anet a chance how to implement this higher level cap. GW2 will be a new game so may be there is a new leveling system. Let's wait and see how this turns out.
4) No character transfer from GW1 >> This one breaks my heart. I have created several characters and 4 of them will turn 2+ years really soon. Loved to play those characters and it would be a shame not to be able to transfer them into GW2. I don't need/want to transfer armor or items into GW2, just please allow us to transfer name, profession and look to GW2. Items/weapons or armor can be purchased in GW2. I just don't want anyone to steal my character's name!
5) PvP/GvG system >> GW2 is a new game, I will keep an open mind for new things.
|
If they incorporated character transfer, it kind of defeats the point of making "a new game". If character transfer was implemented, GW2 would basically be a huge expansion pack.

still, but if nothing transfers to the new game, whats the point of playing now if its gonna all end soon. i really want my characters to be transferrable, or keep my title and weapons or something
because i did not just waste a week of my life getting a tormented shield for absolutely nothing...

I think of Guild Wars 2 as the combination of the good stuffs in Guild Wars and MMORPG PvE. I'm wondering why most of you guys are pissed.
The ultimate question is : Will there be a monthly fee? Will there be a RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing monthly fee?
If there will be, Ill just play my 4 campaigns of Guild Wars, occupy the top 10 of the ladder with my guild and 9 smurfs, win HoH all the time, grind to rank 15, maxed gladiator and champion title, till the servers are turned off permanently. Who will join me?

Holy *blank* almost 10 posts in the past 30 seconds...
Funny thing is many people complain about grind yet complain about losing their money and armor too...sheesh. No one said the level thing was set and no one said it would be a grind.
Can't wait to learn more about the charr, with our new info anyone have any gwen theories relating Gwen to the GW:EN story?

why the hell is evryone automatically assuming its similar to WoW (first off theres games before WoW that WoW is similar to, but i'm not getting into the whole "WoW didn't do everything/anything first" argument). I mean just because some thigns sound similar to you you automatically warp the words in your heads and develop ideas about the game before you even know all the details. sure we know a lot of details but not incredibly detailed details if you get what i mean. just calm the hell down and wait for beta or screens or something to start blasting the game. I personally will simply wait quietly watching everyone flame this game. Once it comes out and is bad which is not what i'm expecting. I think it'll still be unique, but if it is bad then i'll happily flame it. You people never give anything a chance.

So the Prophecies are coming true.
Gwen will lay waste to the lands of Guild Wars.
Well, those from the early days of GW betas sure remember what she was capable of.

For one it limited a lot of the casual non-casual issues, which made it easier on guilds imo.
With current guild wars, you could be hard-core pve still grabbing every skill, on every character you want. And you could have a player not playing as hard-core, grabbing only what he needs, being able to take time out for family or work or whatever. With the cap it made it easy for them to still be just as effective, and be able to game together.

No, it shows that some gamers tolerate grind. Many, like myself, have been put off by the entire MMORPG genre because of the grinding, boredom, and utter lack of creative gameplay.
As for GW2: I wasn't terribly impressed by what I read. But then again, the information is still vague. The whole "players impacting the gameworld/massive raids" thing has been talked about a whole lot, but I have yet to see a mainstream MMORPG pull it off. Maybe Anet will be the first...
If there's more creative - and challenging - PvE content in the sequel, I'll be happy though
